Going International

Thanks to a winning entry in a web design contest (Australian hosted) I have picked up my first international client from Ireland. Working remotely is much easier these days but offers some challenges. Below are a few of my thoughts of what is to come.

Communications - I use project management site, basecamp, to help keep the messaging and to-do lists upto date. The customer also uses Skype so we can call internationlly pc->pc for free. This can be issues to overcome even when working with clients in different states.

Time Differences - We have a 5 hour time difference so there may be some issues with scheduling calls or time lag for instructions and feedback.

Cultural Differences - Probably not too many from US to Ireland in the way business is conducted, but there are laws that affect accessibility of websites in Europe different from the US. I hope the client doesn’t mind my southern US drawl.

It should be a fun experience.
