Photo Project Idea

As I delve further into web design and design in general, I tend to notice trends in print design, brochure layouts, and even signage along the streets. Most chain companies have very strong logos and typography which helps the common man identify them quickly. I have seen photo studies of the Disney World fonts and the park signage in front of rides, and have recently come across an idea regarding city views and the signage.

My twist on this idea is to photograph the iconic signage of a particular city. I live near Atlanta and have a bevy of potential subjects from Delta Airlines, Coke, Hospitals, famous hotels, and of course the standard coffee shops and other logos we come to know so well. The challenge will be to find those rarer signs and landmarks that define the city, such as Mary Mac’s, The Majestic, Ford Factory Square, Lenox square, MLK center, etc… Do this at various times of day and times of the year. This could certainly turn into a multiyear project. I may enlist the help of a few photographer friends and make a few fieldtrips of it. Perhaps even enlist the services of a historian to write about the signs and their social importance.

All it will take is some time, energy, and possibly money.
