Seven Decisions

I was watching an interesting speaker on PBS the other night. Andy Andrews is a motivational speaker and was presenting his book, The Traveler’s Gift : Seven Decisions that Determine Personal Success . He has great illustrations and is obviously very successful. The book is about a man who discovers the seven decisions while visiting different characters in history.

So over the next few days (maybe weeks) I will try to practice the 7 decisions.

  1. The Buck Stops Here.
  2. I Will Seek Wisdom.
  3. I Am a Person of Action.
  4. I Have a Decided Heart.
  5. Today I Will Choose to Be Happy.
  6. I Will Greet This Day with a Forgiving Spirit.
  7. I Will Persist Without Exception.

#7 is my favorite. I started the biz-story.com site with the goal to get as much out of the experience while giving back to small business owners. There are days when it is difficult to write or find ads or do maintenance, but #7 encourages me to go on knowing that merely persisting will open new opportunities. Gapingvoid.com had a similar statement in being creative. Do the thing you do everyday for a long period of time, even if you don’t feel like it. The experience will lead you.

#6 will be the toughest for me. Andy suggest maintaining an open heart full of forgiveness even though the forgiven may never know you forgave them. Forgive those who steal from you, just don’t do business with them again.

#2 might be interesting. Where will I seek wisdom, and how can I distinguish wisdom from knowledge. I need a mentor and have always wanted one. I do not wish to learn someone elses path to success but rather someone to encourage me and guide me on my own. Someone who can open my eyes to new possibilities and will help avoid costly pitfalls.
